He describes those present at the party, who include [Henry] Chaplin and [Lord] Hartington [later 8th Duke of Devonshire] and his lack of success at the races.

He writes from Fort Salisbury giving his opinions of "Johnny" [John] Willoughby, and reports that his letters to the [Daily] Graphic about South Africa have annoyed [Cecil] Rhodes and others and informs her that he is not able to enclose the syndicate's accounts as he has discovered they are inaccurate.

He discusses the effect of his letters to the [Daily] Graphic and the comments of the Pall Mall [Gazette] and reports that "Johnny" [John Willoughby] has left for the Zambezi [Africa].
