Letter from WSC to Philip Tilden, Architect, commenting on financial statement of work at Chartwell, particularly on the Architect's fee, stating that he had originally been told that this would be 6% of the cost, and in the account it had been charged at 7.5%, and that in view of the "great miscalculation" in the cost of completing the work the Architect's fee would be calculated on no more than 10,000, pointing out that there were certain extras which had arisen out of mistakes by the Architect and Builders, and for which he was in no way responsible (eg the dining room fireplace, which was so shallow that it was impossible to burn a fire in it), and objecting to paying a fee on the cost of this work [carbon].
