Letter from Clare Sheridan to WSC, on rejection of her portrait bust of him by the Royal Academy, stating that it was a misjudgement on her part to submit it, and Eric Kennington had advised her not to, she felt that the Academy would tolerate no competition with their own nominee, Sir William Reid Dick, she felt that the rejection would mean little to the Art world, as Epstein and Oswald Birley were also "cast-out" but that it would mean a lot to the uninitiated, and would make it difficult for her to sell any reproductions. Asking if he would be willing to present one to the City of Edinburgh, in "return" for his freedom of the City, or to Kenneth Clark's War Gallery, which would give it his backing.
